PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
As part of your membership in NABIP, you can participate in many professional development programs including approved Continuing Education (CE) programs for licensed insurance agents and brokers. In addition to the programs listed here, professional content is available in person as well as through virtual attendance and recordings from Capitol Conference and Annual Convention.

Our Professional Development committee is currently assessing professional development programs and continuing education programs to complement NABIP programs for 2023. Our offerings may be live in-person or virtual programs, depending on the topic. Please check back here for more information, and watch for our email announcements.

Licensing and Continuing Education Requirements
The state of Massachusetts requires newly licensed individuals to complete 60 continuing education (CE) credits in their initial license period, and 45 CE credits for each 36-month renewal period thereafter, including 3 CE credits in an approved Ethics course. The state has contracted with Prometric to manage and track continuing education credits for licensed producers. To review your transcript records, visit their website.
There are state specific CE requirements for Long Term Care (LTC) producers. These CE requirements can be met as part of your overall state CE requirements for the licensing period (e.g. they are not in addition to the CE requirements for your license). LTC producers must initially take an 8-hour NAIC Partnership which includes training on MassHealth, and must take a 4-hour refresher course every 24 months. Producers who have taken the 8-hour NAIC LTC course from another state will be required to take a 2-hour MassHealth supplement course to fulfill Massachusetts requirements.
Not Licensed Yet? If you wish to become a licensed producer or to help your staff become licensed in Massachusetts, you may wish to contact MAIA (Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents) for information regarding their live preparatory/study courses offered throughout the year. Taking their prep course not only helps one succeed in passing the licensing exam, but the course provides CE credits to help meet the initial licensing CE requirements.
Interested in obtaining your Adviser's License? This is a separate license in the state which allows a producer to charge a fee in lieu of commission for their services. More information can be found at the Division of Insurance website.
